Homeopathy for Animals
I've always loved animals. When I was a child, we always had dogs and cats as pets and we also had lots of contact with wild animals. Being a tomboy, I loved turtles, snakes, frogs, birds, rabbits, and other creatures that I would encounter.
As a young woman, I got involved in horses. I first owned a horse with sight in only one eye, then a retired race horse, and finally a untamed colt that I tamed and went on to show. To pay for expenses, I worked at the stable where I boarded and got experience training cart ponies, "riding down" hunt horses before the hunt, and working on the breeding program. I was also the keeper of the stable cats and often cared for a dozen or more cats that we would host when their owners had abandoned them.
In 1994, I worked with remedies on a herd of dairy cows and had some wonderful results. I loved the fact that I was working with subjects who I could safely assume were immune to placebo effect. Cows also have a reproductive cycle that is similar to a human's and they can suffer many of the same problems as humans. Although singling out the cows and administering the remedy was a difficulty, the "cases" I did work on responded very well.
Now I live a bit more mundane life, but I have two Boston Terriers and an African pygmy hedgehog. It seemed like a natural progression that I would begin to use homeopathy with both my own animals and with the pets of my clients. I've been doing that since I first started consulting in 1989. Once proper vet care is given, I feel fine in trying my hand at treating the problem with homeopathic care. Another option is a homeopathic vet and we are lucky to have an excellent one in Connecticut:
Steve Tobin, DVM
26 Pleasant St
Meriden, CT 06450-5726
Telephone: (203) 238-9863
Dr. Tobin is a traveling vet and makes house calls. He specializes in homeopathy, holistic medicine, and dealing with chronic disease in pets.
Animals seem to respond particularly well to homeopathic remedies. They have usually not been bombarded with medications and their systems are strong and able to easily do what the remedies require. In fact, I've had some luck with some nagging problems.
A few of those are:
abscess in dogs and cats
aftermath of birth in dogs & cats (mother & litter)
aftermath of kennel cough in dogs
aggressive behavior toward other dogs
arthritis in dogs
asthma in dogs
bad breath in dogs
bee sting reaction in dogs
behavior problems in dogs and cats
broken bones in dogs and cats
carsickness in show dogs
digestive problems of all sorts in dogs
false pregnancy in breeding dogs
fear of storms and loud noises in dogs
flea allergies
heat stroke in dogs and guinea pigs
inability to go into heats in cows
inability to let down milk in cows
inability to urinate in cats
infertility in breeding dogs
jaundice in hedgehogs
jealousy in dogs and cats
lameness of unknown cause in horses
litter separation upset in puppies
pain management in dogs, cats, and horses
plane flight stress in cats and dogs
puncture wounds in dogs and cats
separation anxiety in dogs
skin problems in dogs
submissive urination in dogs
surgery aftermath in cats and dogs
vaginitis in cows
wound care in dogs, cats, horses, and cows
If you cannot find a good homeopathic vet to consult with, you can call the National Center for Homeopathy (link here) to get the names of vets who practice homeopathy in your area. If all else fails, I'd be more than happy to consult with you about your animals. Consultations for animals (except initial consults) follow my regular billing schedule.
Another option to consider, especially for emotional disturbance in pets, are the Bach Flower Remedies. I'd be happy to help you to learn to use them either alone or in conjunction with homeopathy.
I highly recommend that you read this beautiful book
about the lasting bond between a woman and her dog.
